Jackson Spybey tied a program record with a 9-under-par 63 in the final round as the South Florida men’s golf team finished tied for fourth place at the Linger Longer Invitational, held at Great Waters Course at Reynolds Lake Oconee on March 22.
The result marks an important achievement for the Bulls, who posted their lowest 54-hole score of the season at 16-under-par 848. The team also recorded its best single-round score of the year with a 14-under-par performance in the final round.
Spybey’s score matched Albin Bergstrom’s school record set during the Quail Valley Intercollegiate in the 2019-20 season. Wilhelm Ryding led South Florida individually, finishing fifth overall at 8-under-par 208 and defeating Vanderbilt’s Wells Williams, ranked No. 10 nationally. Ryding secured his fourth top-10 finish this season. Spybey and Joshua Stewart both tied for 13th place at 5-under-par 211, with Stewart achieving his best individual finish and lowest tournament total of the year.
Other contributors included Roman Solomon, who shot a second-round score of one under par but finished in 77th place overall, and Nino Palmquist, who placed 79th. Gunnar Green competed as an individual and finished in 71st place.
No. 35 Georgia won the tournament by a wide margin with a team total of 48-under-par, while Carter Loflin from Georgia claimed individual honors at 18 under par.
South Florida is scheduled to compete next at the Wyoming Cowboy Classic in Maricopa, Arizona from March 31 to April 1. The USF men’s golf program has captured multiple conference titles and NCAA appearances under head coach Steve Bradley.
