Drowning is the leading cause of injury-related death among children aged 1 to 4 years old

Announcement2

Plant City Police Department issued the following announcement on Aug. 26.

Did you know that drowning is the leading cause of injury-related death among children aged 1 to 4 years old?

Children should always be carefully monitored by an adult around all pools, lakes, and oceans. But have you also thought about the areas in your home where kids can get into water? Young children can drown in as little as one inch of water, so it is extremely important to practice water safety in your home.

- Empty bathtubs, buckets, containers, and kids’ pools immediately after use. Store them upside down and out of any child’s reach

- Close all lids and doors. Keep toilet lids and doors to bathrooms and laundry rooms closed when not in use

- Install fences around home pools that are at least four feet tall with self-closing and self-latching gates.
