Sheriff Chad Chronister and #teamHCSO want you to have fun on the water, but do so with safety in mind!
DID YOU KNOW?
Last year, registered recreational vessels topped one million in the state of Florida.
Boaters should take all safety measures before getting on the water, which includes:
- Checking the news for any severe weather
- Properly outfitting all passengers with a life jacket
- Designating a sober driver
"If your are found to be drinking and operating a boat, I can promise you that our deputies will arrest you and take you to jail," said Sheriff Chronister. "We are not trying to rain on your parade. Drinking while boating is a recipe for disaster, just as it is on land. Please take care of your fellow passengers and all those trying to enjoy the holiday weekend by designating a sober driver.
Anyone who is facing an emergency situation on the water should call 911.
