Wilhelm Ryding is in second place out of 55 golfers after shooting a 6-under-par 66 in the opening round of the American Championship at the Ritz-Carlton Members Club in Sarasota, Fla., according to an April 27 announcement.
The tournament marks an important event for South Florida, with the team currently standing fourth among eleven teams with a combined score of six-under-par 282 after day one. This performance places them within reach of higher standings as competition continues.
Other South Florida players include Joshua Stewart, who is tied for fourteenth place with a score of two-under-par 70. Hugo Trommetter finished even par and stands in twenty-sixth place. Nino Palmquist and Jackson Spybey are both tied for thirty-seventh at two-over-par 74.

South Florida’s men’s golf program has won nineteen conference titles and produced nineteen All-America honorees. The team has claimed six American Athletic Conference Tournament championships—including four consecutive wins from 2015 through 2018—and boasts six individual conference champions such as Jake Peacock, who won in both 2024 and 2025. The Bulls participated in nine straight NCAA Regional tournaments from 2013 to 2022, highlighted by a sixth-place finish in NCAA Championship match play in 2015. Steve Bradley leads the program and has been named American Athletic Conference Coach of the Year five times since taking over in 2014; under his leadership, USF has posted twenty-five tournament victories including three during the current season.
