County of Hillsborough recently issued the following announcement.
Adoption fees waived on Silver Snouts Saturday at the Pet Resource Center. Senior dogs and cats come with free gift
Dogs and cats are fun, loveable companions at any age. Unfortunately, older pets at shelters sometimes find themselves overlooked by residents who are looking for puppies or kittens. That can mean months in an unfamiliar shelter setting for senior dogs and cats that have spent years in the comfort of a home.
November is Adopt-a-Senior Pet Month, and the Hillsborough County Pet Resource Center is trying to find homes for dozens of senior dogs and cats currently at the shelter. On Saturday, Nov. 27, adoption fees will be waived for all pets at the Pet Resource Center, and all senior pets that are adopted on Silver Snouts Saturday will go home with a gift.
There are many benefits to owning a mature dog or cat:
- Senior pets generally need less exercise and are calmer throughout the day, making them ideal for older owners or families with children.
- Most older dogs and cats are already house-trained and are past the teething and chewing phase. Many older dogs have had some obedience training.
- Seniors pets have settled into their personalities, so adopters can more accurately select a pet that matches what they are looking for in a companion. Their size also will not change; no worries about when that puppy will finally stop growing.
The Silver Snouts Saturday promotion will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Pet Resource Center, 440 N. Falkenburg Road, Tampa, FL 33619. No appointments are needed. Find information and photos of dogs and cats now available at the Pet Resource Center.
