Celebrate Earth Day by giving your yard a special treat. Hillsborough County residents can pick up free County-created compost at a one-day only event in Seffner. Compost protects against plant diseases, helps soil retain nutrients, air, and water, maintains a neutral pH, and builds good soil structure.
- Saturday, April 23
- 9 a.m. to noon, while supplies last.
- Residents must self-load into provided bags or bring their own container. Shovels will be provided.
- One bag or up to 5-gallon container of compost per vehicle.
- Open to Hillsborough County residents only, including Tampa, Temple Terrace, and Plant City.
- No commercial vehicles permitted.
Through an innovative partnership between Solid Waste Management and Water Resources, Hillsborough County combines tons of mulched yard cuttings and biosolids to create this in-demand soil amendment. The County's nutrient-rich soil amendment is recommended for use on landscape plants, lawns, and trees.
In addition to free compost, Keep Tampa Bay Beautiful is providing a free 1-gallon Florida native tree for the first 200 vehicles. Residents can also get information on Backyard Composting workshops available in partnership with Hillsborough County Extension.
